“I decided to apply for funding for a PhD because I wanted to continue the research I began in M.A. at NUI Galway. I received a lot of support from my supervisor, Mel Boland, and other lecturers in the Spanish Department during my masters and for all the applications needed. That is how I got the Galway Doctoral Scholarship and then the year after the Irish Research Council Scholarship.
My research focuses on the translation of US drag media into Spanish for Hispanic America. The intersection between Translation Studies and Queer Studies is the main focus, but I am also interested in Latin American queer cultures, and LGBTQ+ historical memory building in Colombia.
In addition to doing research, I have been teaching for the last two years, 2-3 hours a week teaching Spanish and translation and I gave two guest lectures for the module Introduction to Translation Studies about my research topic.”
